Luxe Staycation in Kuala Lumpur: New Year's Eve 2017
Do you ever find yourself spending hours looking for flights and accommodations, even for a short trip? It's one of my biggest pet peeves. As a woman juggling several careers at once (not really, but sure as hell feels like it), my time's extremely important to me. If there's a way I can eliminate unnecessary brain output (make less decisions), I'm the first to jump at it.
I love travelling and going on adventures but sometimes all a girl needs is a short break. But the biggest bane of it all is planning it all out.
Where do I want to go? How am I going to get there? Where do I want to stay? Which flight should I take?
Oh, the QUESTIONS. Can someone just plan it all for me already? (Hint: Business idea for you right there, people.)
So due to the time I often waste thinking and planning my breaks, I tend to settle for a nice, relaxing staycation instead. There are less to think about with staycations and it lets you do what's most important - actually relax for once.
David and I had wanted to spend a nice weekend away (but not too far away) from home for New Year's eve so when I discovered an amazing 'luxury privileges' website called A-ListLife recently, I jumped at the chance to take up a New Year experience at the newly refurbished Intercontinental Hotel KL.
Taken from their website:
For stays between 30 December 2016 and 2 January 2017, InterContinental Kuala Lumpur is offering A-LISTLIFE members an exclusive rate of RM1,100 nett for two nights stay in a Premier Room for two guests.
This privilege includes:
- Complimentary entry to OneSixFive Lounge & Wine Bar New Year's Eve Countdown Party - Complimentary first drink each at OneSixFive Lounge & Wine Bar New Year's Eve Countdown Party - Inclusive of Midnight Supper Buffet (31st Dec) or Hangover Brunch at Serena Brasserie (1st Jan) - (Optional) Special add-on rate RM360 nett for Club Experience
We opted for the Hangover Brunch on 1st Jan but skipped the Club experience.
Considering that the city is always crowded on New Year's eve, I thought it was a good way to spend some time away from home without the hassle of booking flights, accommodations, or planning anything in advance.
We had a glittering countdown party to attend and fabulous brunch to kick off the new year. We were pretty much sorted.
Booking the on the website takes a few emails back and forth (with their Sales team and the hotel) but it was very clear and straightforward. At the end, all we had to do was show up.
If you've never staycation-ed before, it's always a little strange packing up your holiday things just to go 20 minutes into the city. :)
When we finally got to the hotel, let's just say the entire experience was splendid. The staff was friendly, room was large (with tub!), and the bed was divine. Not to mention David brought champagne and chocolates, and we made full use of the bathtub.
The countdown party at the lobby lounge was a little stiff at first but when Cammy walks into the room, you know she be tearing up the dancefloor. Totally shameless. (Ha!)
By midnight, the floor was full of people but it wasn't like a can of sardines, as it was outside on the streets or in clubs/bars. We appreciated the classy experience, and we actually had a really great time - it was the most fun we've had in a long time.
But the piece de resistance throughout the whole stay was really their amazing buffet brunch the next day. Held at Serena Brassiere in the lobby, it was a superb spread of salads, fresh seafood (with oysters!), Asian, Western, canapés, desserts, and Kapiti ice cream with a chocolate fountain. I'm not a big foodie but it was such a joy sampling everything they had.
